Target Beyond

2009-09-03 / Letters

As a community, Staples Motley has traditionally been invested in its youth. However, this does not change the presence of chemicals and alcohol as well as temptation amongst our young people. In fact, according to the Minnesota student survey, over the course of twelve months, 40 percent of 9th graders have had at least one alcoholic drink and 15 percent have experimented with marijuana.

Because of our obvious need for change, Staples Motley High School students have come together to form Target Beyond. As a group, it is our mission to be advocates against illegal and dangerous usage of alcohol and chemicals. We strive to be a presence in our community to educate, encourage and to support one another.

Along with our efforts, we need our parents and community members to continue as influences in the lives and ultimately, the futures, of the youth in the area. We will also be organizing safe and chemicalfree activities for students throughout the school year. Thank you for being a community of support, we look forward to working with you this coming year.
