Railroad stories

Former Staples trainmaster Wally Thompson, left, spoke with Loren Mosman from Wadena Friday at the Northern Pacific Depot during the Staples Historical Society's open house at the depot. Loren, who is wearing a brakeman's uniform, grew up in Staples where his father was a railroad car inspector. A retired industrial arts teacher, he is a model railroader and constructed models of the Staples Northern Pacific rail yard as it looked about 1955. He also constructed a model of the Staples depot, both of which were on display at the open house.
