Melvin Arthur Fuller, 84, of Verndale, died Aug. 15, 2009 at the Lakewood Health Care Center Care Center in Staples.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Aug.18, at the Christiam & Missionary Alliance Church in Verndale with Pastor Del Moen officiating. Burial was in Balsamlund Cemetery. Pallbearers were Kevin Fuller, Jeff Morris, Ben Johnson, Michael O’Keefe, Kevin O’Keefe, and Aaron Fuller.
Arrangements were with the Johnson Memorial Home in Wadena.
Melvin was born at home in rural Minnesota May 3, 1925 to Wesley and Bessie (Reynolds) Fuller.
Melvin served in the United States Navy from Jan. 15, 1945 to Aug. 20, 1946. He married Marian Chilberg on Sept. 20, 1946 at Balsamlund Lutheran Church in rural Aldrich. He served on the Bartlett Township Board for 35 years, and was a member of the Mid-American Dairy Association, the VFW, the Men’s Club, and Balsamlund Lutheran Church. He rang the church bell and made sure the church was warm when others arrived.
His livelihood was made in dairy farming. He enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, taking rides on the gator, eating holiday meals, four-wheeling, fishing, watching Wheel of Fortune, and Price is Right. He loved lutefisk. He especially enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Melvin is survived by his wife; one son David (Pamela) of Verndale; one daughter Melanie (Steven) O’Keefe of Staples; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Thelma Damlo of Perham; Audrey Wilcox of California; and Laverna Curtis of Arkansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Kevin and Jeffrey; one sister, Lois Sulzle; and one brother, Robert.
