Many events planned for Railroad Days
Events are falling into place for the annual Railroad Days celebration in Staples August 21 and 22, 2009.
Events listed and a tentative schedule includes:
Friday, Aug. 21
•City wide garage sales and sidewalk sales (Thursday also)
•Lakewood Golf Classic at The Vintage at Staples
•Mini Golf at local businesses
•Staples Motley Area Chamber of Commerce Scavenger Hunt - Pick up clues and rules at the Staples Motley Area Chamber of Commerce office or Ernie's Food Market beginning Monday, Aug. 17 (clues will not be posted in participating businesses until Wednesday, Aug. 19 ). Turn in your completed forms at the chamber booth at the Chili Cook-Off from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Any chamber businesses wishing to participate may call Morgen at the chamber office, 218- 894-3974
•Pre-Car Show activities - Mini Car Show at Nyhus Chevrolet, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.; Evening/Big Party at Twisted Sisters, 5-8 p.m.
•Historical Museum open at the Staples Depot, 12 p.m.-4 p.m.; Pie Social, 2-4 p.m.; Old Tyme Square Dance, 4-9 p.m., Staples Depot
•KSKK Water Wars, 6 p.m. at the Staples Community Center parking lot
•Staples Motley Cardinal Wrestling Banquet at T Maxwell's, 5 p.m.
•Fireworks at dusk, at the Staples Municipal Airport
•Free movie following the fireworks, at the Staples Motley High School football field (sponsored by NJPA, Staples)
Saturday, Aug. 22
•Pancake Breakfast at Trinity Lutheran Church
•Railroad Days Dash 5K Run/Walk, 9 a.m. starting from Staples Alliance Church
•Chili Cook-Off, 11 a.m.-3 p.m., Staples Communtiy Center parking lot (activities include tractor pull, petting zoo, kid's games, pepper eating contest, balloon water wars, hay rides) Music performed by Katie Ziegler.
Teams are still needed for the chili cook-off; call Morgen at 218-894-3974 for info. packet.
•Craft Fair, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Staples Community Center parking lot
•Piecemakers Quilt Expo, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church
•Classic Car Show, 9
a.m.-3 p.m., at Staples Elementary
School grounds by "Still Cruisin' Car Club"
•Softball Tournament at Dower Lake
•Grand Parade at 5 p.m. Pre-registration forms available at the Staples Motley Area Chamber of Commerce office, 116 4th St. NE, Staples; 218-894-3974
•Corn Feed following the parade at Staples Alliance Church
•Street Dance, 8:30-12:30 p.m. at Gary's Place (music by "Betty Does")
