Becky Wilhelmi Becky Wilhelmi Becky Wilhelmi, a jailer/ dispatcher at the Wadena County Sheriff's Department, has been appointed deputy director of Emergency Management, effective July 24.

Scott McKellep, director of Emergency Management, who nominated Wilmelmi for the position, said he expected her new duties would require five to 10 hours per week. She will be required to become certified as an emergency manager within three to four years.

The certification will be earned through taking online classes and attendance at certain classes at a designated site.

Board Chair Dave Schermerhorn administered the oath of office to Wilhelmi during the July 24 county board meeting, after her appointment was approved by the board.

Wilhelmi's new duties will be integrated into her job description and appropriate adjustments made to her existing responsibilities by management consultant Mike Gibson, with the approval of the board.

Later in the board meeting, the commissioners agreed to postpone the agenda item dealing with the Verndale Highway Garage, which had been set for discussion and decision on July 24.

Joel Ulring, county engineer, told the board he had been unable to prepare for the discussion because of demands on his time by the many road construction and maintenance projects currently underway in the county. In addition, Mayor Ardith Carr of Verndale was unable to attend the board meeting on July 24 to participate in the discussion.

The agenda item was rescheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 1, at the regular county board meeting. However, the meeting will be held at 6 p.m.instead of at 9 a.m, to allow more people to attend.
