The Other Day
. . . I was transported into a wonderful world of sights and sounds, smells and tastes causing me to linger and indulge all my senses.
The exterior of the shop reminded me of being in Germany where window boxes of flowers add beauty and a homey atmosphere. As I opened the big old heavy door, decorated with a full length lace curtain tied in the middle with a bouquet of silk flowers, tiny bells announced my arrival.
Being greeted by two kind and helpful workers, both wearing blue checked aprons with a cross stitched bouquet of flowers matching the door decorations, I realized what a unique and special shop I had discovered. Antique books, old kitchen utensils and other baking paraphernalia completed the ambiance of this great bakery.
But then, the scrumptious aroma filling the air was inhaled and treasured as I longed to taste one of the confections. My eyes opened wide as I beheld shelf after shelf of every imaginable type of baked goodie. The watermelon shaped cookies, iced and decorated were waiting to be consumed. Long Johns; Bismarcks; Apple fritters; fried rolls; maple, carmel, pecan and cinnamon rolls all begged to be taken home. How could I refuse such temptation?
The bakery offered a small space for dining in and I did. I enjoyed a fried roll with a cup of coffee. Needless to say, I gave in to the begging and selected several gooey treats to take home to share. Five pounds later, but remembering every bite of sweet delight, I am calculating how soon my travels will take me back to this bakery of such wondrous treats.
May your day be filled with special spots offering tasty treats and a pleasant atmosphere.
