Army Pvt. Matthew Putz graduated from boot camp and AIT training June 12, 2009, at Fort LeonardWood, Mo. He received special honors from the commanding general for military excellence.

Matt will be stationed at Fort Carson, Colo., after two weeks leave.

He and his family reside in Baxter. Matt is a 1998 graduate of Verndale High School and is the son of Connie Putz, Verndale; and the late John Putz.

Air Force Airman Joshua L. Northup graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

He is the son of Jennell Cooper, Verndale and a 2007 graduate of Verndale High School.
