CLC Foundation creates scholarship for Schluender
Steve Schluender A scholarship fund in memory of the late Steve Schluender, Heavy Equipment Operation and Maintenance instructor at the Central Lakes College, has been created in his memory by wife, Wendy and family.
The initial donation of $25,000 will be endowed and the earnings will be used to provide financial assistance to a third-semester CLC Heavy Equipment student.
Schluender, who held a bachelor's degree from Bemidji State University, was a heavy equipment operator and worked for several construction companies. He taught for 26 years in the CLC Heavy Equipment program until his retirement in August 2008.
Officials said Schluender had a firm commitment to seeing students attain their dreams of a successful
career in the construction industry. Likewise he was committed to seeing the Heavy Equipment Operation and Maintenance program flourish. He demonstrated strong leadership skills amongst his peers and was instrumental in acquiring funding for the program, particularly the west campus shop expansion project.
He always kept in his thoughts the need to stay abreast of new technology in the construction industry incorporating it into the program.
He was admired by students and had a great rapport with many in the industry.
Donations to this fund may be sent to the Central Lakes College Foundation, 501 West College Drive, Brainerd MN 56401.
