EDITOR'S NOTE: This information was submitted to the Staples World regarding the letters from fifth grade students published in last week's issue. We appreciate the clarification.

"Please understand that the "Dear Editor" entries of last week, submitted by Mrs. Holmberg's fifth grade class, were part of an assignment in the writing process known as a 'cold write.' In this process, teachers are expecting the students to edit spelling and grammar errors so the next year's teacher will recognize at what stage the student is in their writing process. It is not intended for the teacher to edit the final copy, even though it is a published piece. This entry goes into their folder which then follows them through the eighth grade containing several 'cold write' and teacher edited submissions. It was meant to also be a 'real life' experience."
