Eleanor Shamp
Eleanor Edna Shamp, 86, of Brainerd, died June 3, 2009 at the St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd.
Funeral services were held June 6, at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery in Nisswa.
Arrangements were with the Brenny Funeral Chapel of Baxter.
Eleanor was born Feb. 12, 1923 in Sedalia, Mo., to James Bruce and Serena Hilda (Gatewood) Salley. After receiving her teaching degree, Eleanor taught for many years at Motley Public Schools. She also was an owner of Fisherman's Inn in Nisswa. Eleanor enjoyed quilting, painting, playing cards and reading.
She was a member of the American Legion in Nisswa, the Eagle's, active at the Brainerd and Pequot Lakes Senior Citizen centers and was a member of Retired Educators.
Eleanor is survived by one son, Michael Stephen Foster, of Sartell; one daughter, Judith Ann Mattson, of Sioux Falls, S.D.; one sister, Roberta "Bee" Workman, of Nisswa; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Gordon Foster, Joe Vargo and Archie Shamp, one sister, Irene Cara Smith; one brother, Dwight Lee Salley.
