Hooked on Fishing

Submitted photo Submitted photo The annual Hooked on Fishing event for fourth graders in the Staples Motley elementary schools was held May 16 on Dower Lake. Fifty-one students participated with 18 volunteers (including this group above) providing boats. Many fish were caught, despite the cold and windy weather conditions. Chris Goff headed up the all-volunteer effort, with help from a host of others. He noted contributions from Helling's Food Pride,Barrel O' Fun, Holsum Bakery and Pepsi for the food for the meal. Other contributions came from Staples Host Lions, Robert J. Creations, DNR Officer Jeff Halverson, the Staples Police Department and the Staples Volunteer Fire Department.

A helping hand Dower Lake was the setting for the annual Hooked on Fishing event held May 16, with 18 boat owners helping youngsters try their luck at fishing. The 51 fourth grade participants each received a Hooked on Fishing Not on Drugs T-shirt, a new Zebco rod and reel, and a tackle box full of fishing tackle. Mike Frish, a fishing guide, donated a half day guided fishing trip to the program. The lucky winner of the trip was Anthony Wagner (at right) who attends Staples Elementary School.
