Cardinal girls are Mid State track champions
The Staples Motley girls track and field team won first place yet again, this time at the Mid State Confer- ence meet at Detroit Lakes on Tuesday, May 12.
Staples Motley girls had six first place and six second place finishes, while ten Cardinals set personal records to contribute to the first place finish.
Ashley Lisson conquered the dashes, taking first place in both the 100 and 200 meter events and setting a personal record in the 200.
Kaytlin Roth was first in the 800. Also Jaelin Beachy took first in the 300 hurdles, while Emma Koskiniemi (400) and the 4x100 relay team (Pilgrim, Reese, Wing, Lisson) out ran the competition.
Andrea Koskiniemi also set a PR in the 200. "It was fun to see three Cardinal girls come over the line first, second and third, while each runner set a personal record," Coach Beachy said about the 400 meter dash, where Emma Koskiniemi took the win, with Brooke Simonson in second and Logan Peterson in the third place slot.
All three Cards in the 300 hurdles (Nikki Pearson, Kelly Pearson and Jaelin Beachy) also set personal records, while distance runners Kaytlin Roth (800) and Emily Fuhrman (1600) both ran better than they ever have. Emma Koskiniemi and Fuhrman both set another personal record in the high jump.
"Kaytlin (Roth) had two great 800's this meet, placing first, and then helping the 4x8 relay team to a second place finish." Beachy said.
Second place finishes included Emma Pogreba in the 3200m run, Nikki Pearson in the 300m hurdles, Brooke Simonson in the 400 meters, the 4x200 relay (Pilgrim, Emma Koskiniemi, Peterson, Simonson) the 4x800 relay (Roth, Nyhus, Pogreba, Wenzel) and Liz Willgohs in the pole vault.
