Shirley Olson
Shirley Anne Olson, 82, of Coon Rapids, died May 2, 2009 at Unity Hospital in Fridley.
Memorial services were held May 6, at the First Congregational Church of Anoka. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery.
Arrangements were with the Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.
Shirley was born Jan. 30, 1927 in St. Cloud to William George and Beatrice Alice Ring. She graduated from Staples High School and attended nursing school at the College of St. Catherins, before marrying John Olson.
She worked at Anoka- Hennepin School District while completing her nursing degree at Anoka-Ramsey Community College. She was employed as a registered nurse at Lakeridge Nursing Home, Shoreview for many years. She volunteered as Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader, coordinating rides for seniors with medical needs, driving cancer patients for the American Cancer Society, organizing and driving for Meals On Wheels and working in the office of the New Folk Collective. She was a member of First Congregational Church of Anoka.
Shirley is survived by three sons, Douglas (Mary); Eric (Pat); Gordon; one daughter, Cheri (Grant) Riemer; and one close personal friend, Sue Peters and her daughter, Amy Peters; five grandchildren, two sisters, Marge (Bob); Alice (Jim) Blake; several sisters and brothers-in-law; many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, and one son-in-law, Bob Nielsen. A00006B2009MY21
