Relay for Life teams prepare for June 5
      Hundreds of people are expected to walk the Staples Elementary School track June 5, as part of the annual "Relay for Life" event in the fight against cancer. "This is always a special night," said Barb Peterson, member of the Staples Area Bosom Buddies (Breast Cancer) Support Group; and a committee member of the Relay for Life event.

Project Together gardening opportunity
      A garden group through Project Together for adults with disabilities will be meeting one or two nights a month at Living Legacy Gardens, Staples, starting Tuesday, May 26, at 6:30 p.m. and continuing through the summer into early fall.

Pinocchio auditions slated for June 7
      The Staples Motley Area Arts Council auditions for Prairie Fire Children's Theatre's original musical production of "Pinocchio" will be held at 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 7, at the Centennial Auditorium in Staples.

      A social to honor those retiring from the Staples Motley School District is planned for Thursday, May 28, at The Vintage golf course north of Staples. Those retiring include Gwynne Gildow, Nancy Johnson, Bob Koenig, Bonita Hansen and Rose Deering.

Traveling Wall opens June 4 in New York Mills
      On Thursday, June 4 at 11 a.m. the Vietnam Memorial Traveling Wall will open to the public at VFW Post 3289 in New York Mills. During the four days the traveling wall will be in New York Mills there will be special programs each day at 11 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. June 4, at 7 p.m. the Wadena Area Concert Band will perform in the bandshell.
