Ness on winning all star team
Trevor Ness of Staples Motley High School recently completed a long weekend on an all-star hockey team representing Minnesota.
Ness, who led the Wadena Deer Creek hockey team this past season in scoring, played for Team Minnesota in the Chicago Showcase from April 15 to April 19.
Team Minnesota capped a six games stretch with a 3-2 win over Team Michigan in the championship game.
Twenty Minnesota players from Two Harbors to Moorhead to Winona to New Ulm played for Team Minnesota. They downed New Jersey 3-1 in their first game, then downed Michigan 4-2. They took a 4-1 win from Pittsburgh in the third game of pool play.
In the final round of teams that survived the pool play, Minnesota started out with a 7-4 win over Missouri, followed by a 3-0 win over New Jersey for their second win over that team.
On Sunday, April 19, Team Minnesota took on Michigan in the championship game, gaining their second win over Michigan and the team trophy.
Trevor played in four of the games, getting one goal, (against New Jersey) and two assists for three points. Twenty-four boys' teams from across the United States representing 43 states competed and showcased their talents to scouts from every major hockey institution in the country.
The purpose of this event is to allow high school hockey players from around the country who may not get scouted due to geographic and budgetary constraints within the scouting circles the opportunity to compete against the best of the best during a five day period and be seen by every major hockey institution in North America.
