Boys golf squad second at Cardinal Invitational

The Staples Motley boys golf team hosted their Cardinal Invitational on Saturday and competed in three other meets this past week.

Fresh- man Nick Forsberg shot a par 72 Saturday at The Vintage to capture medalist honors and lead his team to a second place finish.

The Cards had a total score of 324, 11 strokes off the pace set by first place St. Cloud Cathedral.

Other Saturday scores for the Cards included an 82 by Michael Strain, 83 for Zach Israelson, 87 for Travis Meyers, 88 for Tanner Roberts and 94 for Logan Swensrud.

A Cardinal junior varsity team finished 13th among the 16 teams that played at The Vintage on Saturday, shooting a team total of 392.

The Cardinal boys golf team finished fourth among 13 teams competing April 20 at The Territory Golf club at St. Cloud in the Pre-Section 6AA boys tournament.

 
Cardinal freshman Nick Forsberg shot an 80 for a tie for third lowest score of the day. Nathan Hoefflin of St. Cloud Cathedral was medalist with a par 72, while Joe Overman of Albany had a round of 78.

Also in the top ten was Zach Israelson's 83. Other Cardinal scores included Michael Strain 90,Tanner Roberts 91, Travis Myers 92 and Eric Nelson 104.

Cardinal boys finished in third place April 23 at the Pequot Lakes Invitational held at The Preserve at Grandview. SM had a 337 total team score,, finishing behind Pequot Lakes at 329 and Brainerd at 331.

Travis Myers had the low score for the Cards at The Preserve, with a round of 82. He was followed by Israelson at 84, Forsberg 85, Strain 86, Roberts 88 and Swensrud at 103.

The Staples Motley boys were the winners at the Blueberry Invite, held at Blueberry Pines and hosted by the Menahga Sebeka Warriors. The Cardinals shot a 330 total, beating out Pequot Lakes (341) and Detroit Lakes (350) for top honors.

At Blueberry, Michael Strain turned in the best Cardinal score with an 80, third best round of the day. Forsberg carded an 81, Myers 84, Israelson 85, Roberts 88 and Swensrud 94.

Saturday at The Vintage, St. Cloud Cathedral won with 313. East Grand Forks came in third with a 333.
