Don Jelinek, 87, Anoka, formerly of the Staples Motley area, died Feb. 22, 2009 at the Anoka Care Center.

A memorial service will be held May 8, 10 a.m. at the Epiphany Catholic Church, 1900 111th Ave. NW, Coon Rapids, MN 55433.

Don was born Aug. 21, 1921 in Melrose to Stanley and Ann Jelinek. He lived in Staples most of his life, worked and retired from the railroad as an engineer. He served with the Minnesota National Guard. He married Renee Lund in 1969 and they lived in Staples before moving to Lake Shamineau. Don moved to senior living in Coon Rapids in 2001.

Don is survived by three sons, Ronald (Ruth) Jelinek of Sioux Falls, S.D.; Michael (Rose) Jelinek of Baxter; Robert (Marge) Jelinek of Eagan; one daughter, Deborah (Jerry) Bleich of Norfolk, Neb.; three step-children, Jeff (Karla) Lund of Eden Prairie; Bruce (Eva Joy) Lund of Staples; and Kathy (Karl) Ingersoll of Yuma, Ariz.; 18 grandchildren; 18 greatgrandchildren; one brother, Jack; three sisters, Mary Lou, Donna and Darlene.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to the American Diabetes Association.
