Marvin C. Verbeck, 88, of Staples, died April 23, 2009 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Brainerd.

Funeral services were held April 27, at the Staples Church of Christ with Pastor Barry Klein officiating. Burial was in the Green Lawn Cemetery in Verndale.

Arrangements were with the Brenny Funeral Home in Staples.

Marvin was born Oct. 23, 1920, in Desmet, South Dakota, to Wilbur L. and Mary M. (Moench) Verbeck. He grew up in the Wadena area. Marvin joined the military in Dec. 14, 1942, where he served in WW II. He married Florence R. Chapman, on June 8, 1943. He was discharged from the military on Nov. 13, 1945. He lived in various places and owned various businesses involving logging, construction, farming and mechanics.

Marvin is survived by one son, Vernon (Nancy) Verbeck of Motley; four

daughters, Rose (Bazil) Wales of Staples; Doris Seely; Viola (Bruce) Seeley both of Deer River; Mableann Cooper of Minneapolis; 15 grandchildren,27 greatgrandchildren, and many nieces and nephews;one brother-in-law, Lawrence Cooper of Motley; and special friend Violet Moench.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two brothers, Larry and LeRoy; two half brothers Percy and Taylor; two sons, Ormall and Dale Verbeck; two daughters Pearl and Ruby Verbeck; one son-in-law, Darwin Seely; and one grandson.
