David Michael VanVickle, 36, of Ely, died March 17, 2009 in the Virginia Regional Medical Center after a long illness.

Memorial services were held March 23 at First Lutheran Church in Ely with Pastor John Bonk officiating.

Arrangements were with the Bauman-Cron, a Bauman Family Funeral Home in Virginia.

David was born April 17, 1972 in Ely to Beverly Lione Kappes (James Kappes). He attended school in Babbitt. David married Penny Durbin in Ely on March 20, 1993. He was currently residing in Leonidas.

David worked at Artic Cat in Thief River Falls for eight years until becoming disabled and returned to Ely. He enjoyed knife collecting and bike racing.

David is survived by his wife, two sons, Ian Michael VanVickle; Cody Joseph Scholz; one daughter, Brianna Lynn VanVickle; one brother, Douglas Dwain VanVickle; two sisters, Dena Marie (Kappes) Nyman; Angie VanVickle of the Twin Cities; close friend, Joshua Rouho of Ely; his father, Dwight Douglas VanVickle of Motley; and numerous family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Geraldine Grembowski; one sisterin heart, Kelly Kowarsch; one brother-in-law, Gerald Durbin; and cousin, Jason Grembowski.
