Flynn family memoir workshop

Submitted Photo Submitted Photo Great River Arts Association presents the opportunity to learn the art of writing family memoir in this two-day workshop conducted by author Laura Flynn.

The workshop will explore many of the facets of this genre including: an introduction to the art form; ethical questions related to writing family memoir; conducting research; weaving personal and researched material together; and practice writing scenes and dialogue.

Flynn was born and raised in San Francisco, California. She is the author of Swallow the Ocean- a memoir of growing up in the face of her mother's catastrophic mental illness- published by Counterpoint Press in 2008. She currently teaches creative writing in Minneapolis.

Scheduled for the weekend of April 4-5, beginning at 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday; attendees are encouraged to participate in a public reading in conjunction with members of the Great River Writers Group that will following the workshop on Sunday.
