The Other Day
. . . I was searching for a picture from our adventure to the southwest. As I looked through the array of scenery pictures, I was reminded how difficult it is to capture the grandeur of mountain peaks; a 4x6 snap shot just can't hold the splendor.
Finding the very picture I wanted, my mind transported me to the very spot as I remembered the events. Driving west, we observed a huge mountain peak looming in the distance. The peak remained constant as the road shifted and meandered through valleys and smaller hills. Sometimes, when we descended into a valley, we completely lost sight of the illusive mountain almost forgetting the impressive allure it held. But, sooner or later, it popped back on our radar screen.
Driving through one such valley, we indulged ourselves and took time to enjoy smaller yet stunning scenery and some of the local attractions. Canyons containing deer and antelope were interesting to observe. Maneuvering around a sharp corner, we noticed mountain goats scampering up the rocks. We toured quaint little towns offering specialty shops of souvenirs where we found some treasures and also some amusing eateries.
Back on the road, we continued to pursue our illusive mountain peak. After miles and miles of interesting but long distances, it still seemed ever so far away. I remember thinking: it is good to stay focused on the important goals in our life, but, if we become so occupied with those concerns, it is possible to miss the good and beautiful right in front of us. Majestic mountain peaks certainly get our attention, but so should the smaller beautiful hills and valleys of our life.
May your day be filled with nearby treasures and mountain peaks to pursue.
