A short memorial service was held for long-time member, Ida Kirk, who passed away on January 22. Auxiliary Chaplain, Bernie St. Pierre conducted the service assisted by Auxiliary President, Carol Olsen. Ida Kirk was a very active member of the Auxiliary for over 50 years. She held many offices during that time, including five years as president, from 1994 to 1999. "She is greatly missed, both personally and for all the activities she participated in," said Olsen.

During March Food Shelf month, the Auxiliary receives donations from the members. Auxiliary member and Staples Food Shelf Coordinator Fran Mertens collected $122 for food at the meeting.

Several lap robes and other items were received also. These will be taken to the St. Cloud VA Medical Center. Members of Unit 70 make several trips each year to the St. Cloud VA Medical Center with various items to be distributed to the veterans.

Doreen Scott, Auxiliary Legislative Chairman, presented letters that will be seny to our congressmen, urging their support for the proposed VA facilities planned in Brainerd.

"The Auxiliary feels these facilities would be of great benefit to our local veterans and their families," said Scott. "We urge others to write letters of support also."
