Some thoughts
I have been thinking about this for a long time and everyone I speak to agrees, but I don't see hardly anyone speaking up, so here is the question.
Does Staples really have enough money to build a new city hall? How many people would it house? Are you getting the money from raised property taxes after everyone was forced to upgrade their property? Wouldn't we better utilize our dollars by using existing properties? It's not like there is nothing available. Wouldn't Staples draw more business with less vacant buildings? What if we used some of our dollars on our local education facilities?
When I look at what is good in a small community, of course jobs are number one, though now many people can work on-line. The second thing I look at is the education facility. My children's education is extremely important. Then, I want a safe environment. Empty buildings do not look good.
The Nordell Building just seems so perfect for city hall. Right on the main drag, it would be easy for tourists and those passing by to stop and ask about our fair city.
And wouldn't the old Lutheran Church make a beautiful library? I can picture myself sitting in a comfy chair reading by those beautiful south windows.
Please think about it. If you do agree, please write here or contact our city council. Thank you.
