      Thank you to everyone who came to the Scholastic Book Fair at Staples Elementary School March 4 - 6. We are excited to report that together we raised $1,021 that will be used for various programs in our school. In addition, we raised $415 for new books for the library.

Staples Auxiliary's March activities
      The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 70 of Staples held their regular meeting on March 2. Several members and one guest attended. A short memorial service was held for long-time member, Ida Kirk, who passed away on January 22. Auxiliary Chaplain, Bernie St. Pierre conducted the service assisted by Auxiliary President, Carol Olsen.

50 years
      James and Janet Hill of Anoka will celebrate their 50th anniversary with friends April 4, at the Holiday Inn in Elk River.       Mike Dumpprope and Mandi Weishair announce their engagement and forthcoming marriage. Parents are Jason and Shelly Robben and Spencer and Amy Dumpprope; and Kurt Weishair and Connie Gode, all of Staples. An April 18 wedding is planned at the Staples Alliance Church.

FFA Day on the Hill
      Delegates from the Staples Motley FFA attended the FFA Day on the Hill at the state Capitol Feb. 26 as part of National FFA Week activities. Members had the chance to sit in on a Senate session and be involved in committe meetings. Along with tours of the Capitol, attendees developed a further understanding of the legislative system.

Forestry team fourth
      The Staples Motley FFA Chapter recently participated in the Ag. Activities Day at the University of Minnesota- Crookston Campus competing in the Forestry, Soils Evaluation, Small Animals, Fish and Wildlife and Business Management competitions. The Forestry Team finished fourth lead by Ryan Bart, fourth individual overall.

CLC honors
      o CENTRAL LAKES COLLEGE, BRAINERD AND STAPLES, has announced its 2008 fall semester President's List and Dean's List. To qualify for the President's List, students must earn a gradepoint average of 3.75 and carry 12 credits; and for the dean's list earn a gradepoint average of 3.25.

      . . . I was searching for a picture from our adventure to the southwest. As I looked through the array of scenery pictures, I was reminded how difficult it is to capture the grandeur of mountain peaks; a 4x6 snap shot just can't hold the splendor.

Preschool options showcased at fair
      Staples Motley School District and MOMS Club of Staples sponsored a Preschool Education and Activities Fair Feb. 28. The fair showcased area preschool educational opportunities along with community businesses offering preschool activities or services.

      o TRAVIS WARNER, Staples, student at Jamestown College in North Dakota, is participating in the Jamestown College Concert Choir's annual nine-state tour. o SCOT NURNBERGER, Motley, was placed on the 2008- 2009 fall semester dean's list at Upper Iowa University.

Career fair/training expo
      On March 24, Central Lakes College in Brainerd will host the Lakes Area Career Fair and Training Expo. The free event will be from 1 to 5 p.m., with employer and agency job assistance booths located in the campus gymnasium. This year's career fair will focus on training and career opportunities.

      Reportedly, 61 percent of women experience sleep difficulties during and after menopause, according to the National Sleep Foundation. Yet, effective and safe treatments are available for these difficulties.
