The Staples Motley Babe Ruth (13 to 15 years old) team last week won three games in their league playoffs and will be playing (starting Wednesday) in this week’s District Babe Ruth playoffs.

VFW season concludes with 5-8 record for young squad

The Staples Motley VFW baseball team dropped a pair of games to the Sartell VFW July 21, bringing the local VFW team’s regular season to a close.

The Staples Motley VFW ends their season with a 5-8 overall record, according to Coach John Riewer. They lost the first game of a doubleheader 8-5, then the second game 8-1.

Students advance in Tae Kwon Do

United Tae Kwon Do Systems of Staples under the instruction of Francisco Jimenez has announced a new affiliation with the National Tae Kwon Do Institute, Owatonna.

Jimenez also notes the promotion of the following students:

SM Legion team eliminated in District playoffs, finishing 12-7

The Staples Motley American Legion baseball team managed a win in their first game of the Legion District tournament last week, but then lost two games in the double elimination competition.

The Cardinal squad dumped Paynesville 12-1 Thursday in their opening game, but then dropped a tight 2-1 contest to Maple Lake on Thursday.
