Miller, Petrich conference champs

The wrestlers from Staples Motley wrestled two duals last week, and then competed in the Mid-State Conference tournament on Jan. 27. The Cardinals finished with two conference champions, Blake Miller and Blake Petrich, one honorable mention wrestler, David DeYonge and a third place finish from Cody Drone.

With wins hard to come by early in the season, The Staples Motley boys basketball team showed some improvement with a 61- 49 win over Wadena-Deer Creek on Jan. 24 and a 79- 44 win agains Pillager on Jan 26. The lost at Pierz 83- 41 on Jan. 27.

The Cardinals have won three of their last five games and are starting to turn their season around.

Cardinals slip but bounce back for conference win

The Staples Motley girls basketball team found themselves down early in their last two games. They were unable to come all the way back in a 76-64 loss to Pelican Rapids on Jan. 23, but showed their resiliency in turning a 10 point deficit into a 63-54 win over Wadena Deer Creek on Jan. 27.
