City still wants to form charter commission

After a judge declined to pick names for a Staples Charter Commission, the Staples City Council decided to reapply so that the judge wouldn’t have to choose among people he does not know.

Connections High School Board of Directors will meet at Central Lakes College on Feb. 7, at 4 p.m.

Connections is the charter technical school being planned for the Staples area.

Although the school is not yet operational, the board exists and meets monthly.

The Staples Motley Education Association rejected the tentative agreement negotiated with the school board sending both sides back to the bargaining table.

A simple majority was needed to approve the contract which would cover the 2011- 12 and 2012- 13 school years.

SEDA to find new goals

The Staples Economic Development Authority decided to have another strategic planning meeting like the one that produced five goals the board has been working on for the past year.

In January of 2011, the board held a planning meeting to help direct Economic Development Director Jerel Nelsen on the board’s priorities.

Arrests in Staples for threats, narcotics, theft

On Jan. 24, Staples Police arrested Troy Breckenridge, 38, of Staples, for terroristic threats after Breckenridge had threatened a juvenile male and then started driving in the direction of the victims residence. The arrest happened in the 400 block of 8th St. NE.

Horse owner had caretaker

The Wadena County Sheriff’s Department tracked down the owner of the abandoned horse and dogs reported in last week’s newspaper.

According to the sheriff’s office, the owner is attending family issues and claims to have made arrangements with someone to take care of the animals.

The sheriff’s office did not expect any criminal carges in the case.
