Armed suspect flees after store robbery

An armed robbery at the Staples Self Serv gas station is still unsolved. On Jan. 25, around 2:30 p.m., a white male in his mid to late twenties or early thirties entered the store with a handgun and demanded money. He was handed money and fled the store on foot.

The Minnesota Historical Society has announced the recipients of their mid and large size grants under their Historical and Cultural Heritage grant program. One of the 59 recipients was the Staples Historical Society, which was awarded a $90,000 grant.

The Staples Motley District Spelling Bee was held on Jan. 26 at the Centennial Auditorium in Staples. Students, grades 5- 8, were representatives of Staples Elementary, Sacred Heart Area School, Motley Elementary and Motley Staples Middle School.
