MFD gets FEMA grant extention
Council hears this and other dept. reports
      Thanks to a FEMA grant extension (approved until June 5, 2010), the Motley Fire Department will be able to purchase six new face masks. The Motley City Council, at their regular meeting March 9, approved the purchase of these six masks from Fire Safety USA. Priced at $664 each, the total cost is $3,984.

Flooding on Crow Wing
     Rising water along the Crow Wing River south and east of Motley caused at least one person to be evacuated Tuesday afternoon.

Pillager youth wrestlers busy
      The Pillager youth wrestling team (a Pillager Community Ed. program) has been busy with individual and team competitions, says team coordinator Angie Kramer. “This tough group of kids are loading up on hardware with an exceptional season,” Angie added.

Calendar changes for Motley’s City Council and City Hall
      In addition to setting their clocks ahead for Daylight Saving Time, folks from the Motley area may want to jot down a couple of other calendar changes. Starting in April, the Motley City Council will hold their regular meetings just once a month; and Motley City Hall will be closed on Fridays. These decisions were made at the council’s regular meeting March 9.

      Motley’s Two Rivers Music Fest will be back for the fourth year in a row, scheduled to take place this summer, July 23 - 25. Larry Beckner, chair of the non-profit organization, gave an update about the upcoming event at the Motley City Council’s regular meeting March 9.

MCC approves city’s fee schedule
      At their regular meeting March 9, the Motley City Council approved the 2010 fee schedule (with slight amendments) as presented. Of note is a $50 per hour fee for mowing, with a twohour minimum; and a $50 per load fee for pool fills, plus water charges. “Christ in the Passover” at First Baptist, Pillager
      Jesus’ Last Supper was actually a Jewish Passover. Matthew D. Friedman of “Jews for Jesus” will recreate the traditional Passover service and explain how it foreshadowed Jesus’ death and resurrection in a presentation called, “Christ in the Passover,” at First Baptist Church, 903 River St. South, Pillager, Wednesday, March 24, 6:30 p.m.

Morrison County sheriff’s employee receives certification
      Jeff Jelinksi, Morrison County Communications Supervisor, has received the Communications Unit Leader Type III Certification. The certificate was awarded by the Statewide Radio Board of Minnesota. Jelinski is one of four individuals recognized with this honor in the State of Minnesota.

Jobs-targeted bonding bill should put thousands of Minnesotans back to work
      MN State lawmakers worked together throughout the interim and first months of session to craft a jobs-targeted bonding bill capable of putting thousands of Minnesotans back to work. The legislature passed that bill (HF2700) with bipartisan support last week, capitalizing on historically low interest rates and project bids 20 to 30 percent lower than anticipated.
