Cardinal girls win sub section
SMHS in Section 6AA title game Friday at St. Cloud State
      The No. 1 seed Staples Motley Cardinal girls won the West Sub Section 6AA tournament Tuesday, downing No. 2 seed Benson 56-52 at Minnesota Morris on Tuesday night.

Four Cardinal wrestlers lose at state
      Blake Petrich, Cardinal 189 pounder, worked to complete an escape during his 189 pound match with Ripp Baker from Milaca. Petrich’s state wrestling ended when he was pinned in the first round match. (Staples World photo by Dave Anglin) The 2010 Minnesota State Wrestling Tournament was held this past week in St. Paul, and four Cardinal wrestlers made the trip this year.

Cardinal boys B-squad results
      The Staples Motley boys basketball JV closed out their season last week with a road win over Detroit Lakes 65 to 60 and a home win against Sebeka 56 to 45. The Cards had one of their best shooting games of the year in the game against Detroit Lakes shooting 10 three point baskets with balanced scoring from all the players.

Accident
Car crashes into garage off Highway 210
      Ann and Robb Peterson of 275th Avenue just south of Staples had a surprise visitor just before 5 p.m. Tuesday. A pickup driven by Tim Mears of Staples left Hwy. 210 on the curve, crossed a ditch and the avenue before crashing into the side of their two-car garage. Mears was taken by Staples Ambulance to the Lakewood Health System Hospital.
