      The Staples Volunteer Fire Department and the Staples Ambulance Service were honored as Grand Marshalls for the Staples Railroad Days parade Aug. 28. The recognition was intended to show appreciation for what they do and how they train every day to aid their community.

      The Staples Rotary Club won both the Judges Award and the People’s Choice Award for the best chili at the Chili Cook-off Saturday during Railroad Days. Sources close to the action credit the Rotarians’ secret recipe and expert chefs brought in specially for the occasion.

Staples Police report
      On Aug. 29, Janet Kiley of the Landmark Inn reported the theft of a light purple/lavender Adirondak style chair from her property. The chair is valued at about $40. She thought the theft occurred sometime after the parade on Aug. 28.
